Veterans Disabilities - Why do veterans shy away from treatment?

Why do veterans shy away from treatment?

My opinion is that almost everytime, there is a pull to get treatment, it is followed by, just get over it.

Push, push till you cant go, then push some more. That is what is taught. Anytime you show any weakness, you lose your position, you lose spot, you lose the support.

In the movie Dog, they hit the nail on the head. When he tells the Captain all of us have injuries and head trauma. The captain tells him, yeah but we dont have it documented.

That's a very true statment. Once we as veterans step forward. Families, work and almost anyone that has anything to do with us, change their opinions, interactions and how they deal with us. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worst.

Many times they absolutely dont understand. Because of this, they will attempt to help in their way and it causes more issues.

One of the biggest suggestions when it comes to getting help is involving the family when ever possible. They can use the classes and sit in on some of the briefings with the VA and caregiver supports.

It is highly recommend that employers learn about the veterans and understand what is involved, instead of drawing uneducated opinions about them.

Veterans with injuries, major trauma, PTSD and several other issues are unique not because the injury itself, but how it occurred.

Many times it is a life of high adrenline, injuries, and a constant series of events that goes on for years. Then all of the sudden it comes to a complete stop. Kind of like a train that is flying down the tracks and all of the sudden it hits a car and plows thru or it derails and all the cars come crashing in behind it.

Please keep this in mind when passing opinions and judgement about Veterans.
