Being offended

Image
Seems like anything that is said, done or posted is automatically attacked by someone who is offended.   Someone can post a picture of a dog outside and immediately there will be goobs posting comments like "people who put dogs outside should die" "Dogs arent meant to be outside". No reason other than a dog was laying on a porch and it is met by "offended people".  The old saying of, listening to answer, not listening to hear.  It is a sad time when something tht is as simple as a picture cant be shared without a bunch of goobs attacking someone.   The need for affirmation is crazy. Too many with the self importance of, if you dont think like me you are wrong.   Now for the big twist. Once you go public with anything, you have laid out there fo rcomments, good and bad.   Something to keep in mind. Getting offended about something someone said, when you gave them the ability to respond.  Use good judgement and select your audience. Y...

The Story of the Bird

Image
Once there was a bird flying and the cold air became unbearable. He couldnt keep up and the rest continued on without thinking about him. He was pissed and keep pushing, not stopping. The situation got worst. Ice started building up on his wings. The weight caused him to land and he couldnt hardly move. He thought this is it. A cow came walking by, stopped and crapped all over him. The bird got really upset. But as he lay there, the warmst started to thaw out his wings and he could move. He started to realize though, he was stuck. He was pissed. This cat comes along and hears him chripping begins to dig him out. The cat digs the bird free. Once out the bird thanks the cat and complains to the cat about the cow crapping on him. The cat turns around and eats the bird. The moral of the story is: 1. your people you fly with wont always be there when you need them 2. When things arent going right stop and regroup, dont make a bad situation worst 3. People that crap on you arent always ...

For many Veterans it's the sudden stop

Image
Could you image living a life of go, go, go. Then all of the sudden, broke arm, broke leg, loss leg, loss job. It was as sudden as a car crash.  Image a life of getting up, running between 2-15 miles, at least every other day. Deploying with no notice. Being gone for a week to 3 years. Jumping out of airplanes. Scuba diving. Never living in same place for more than 2-3 years. Drinking all night with a great bunch of people. going to ceremonies. Getting awards. Rappelling down mountains, rappelling out of aircraft. Running obstacle courses. Running Confidence courses. Shooting ranges. Surfing. Hiking. Mountain Biking. Having kids. Going to funerals. Seeing the world. Hostile countries. Friendly countries. Learning languages. Training with foriegn units. Dating. Getting married.  Living a non stop life every single day. Feeling like if you sleep in one extra hour, you have missed the entire day.   Cramp everything into a 20 year span, sometimes even less.  N...

Poppy, Flanders Field Explained

Image
Taken from the History Channel webpage. From 1914 to 1918,  World War I  took a greater human toll than any previous conflict, with some 8.5 million soldiers dead of battlefield injuries or disease. The Great War, as it was then known, also ravaged the landscape of Western Europe, where most of the fiercest fighting took place. From the devastated landscape of the battlefields, the red poppy would grow and, thanks to a famous poem, become a powerful symbol of remembrance. Across northern France and Flanders (northern Belgium), the brutal clashes between Allied and Central Powers soldiers tore up fields and forests, tearing up trees and plants and wreaking havoc on the soil beneath. But in the warm early spring of 1915, bright red flowers began peeking through the battle-scarred land:  Papaver rhoeas , known variously as the Flanders poppy, corn poppy, red poppy and corn rose. As Chris McNab, author of “The Book of the Poppy,” wrote in an excerpt  published  in t...

Veterans Day

Happy Veterans day to all veterans.

We didnt have that in our day - Yes you did

Image
I heard the conservation many times. We didn’t have that in our day. This social media has caused all this. We didn’t have fake news and bad attitudes and poor manners.  Unfortunately, you, we, us did. It wasn’t as widespread, but it was there. It has only grown.  People forget. Ann Landers and the columns where people aired out their problems in the newspapers. They forgot about gossip columns in newspapers. They were actually titled gossip. People forget about party lines and listening in. People forgot about the church, court house,   quilting circles and other venues of conversation. People forget that they didn’t have a lot of time at work to be on social media and making videos. Conversations were held while working. They forgot that most people didn’t want to discuss politics and religion at work.  People forget that much of what wasn’t there actually was. It was handled different.  They all talked about other people, formulated their own i...

U.S. Marine Corps Birthday 249th

Image
Happy Birthday to the US Marines. From Marine Corps Universary: On November 10, 1775, the Second Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia passed a  resolution  stating that "two Battalions of Marines be raised" for service as landing forces with the fleet. This resolution established the Continental Marines and marked the birth date of the United States Marine Corps. Serving on land and at sea, these first Marines distinguished themselves in a number of important operations, including their first amphibious raid into the Bahamas in March 1776, under the command of Captain (later Major)  Samuel Nicholas . The first commissioned officer in the Continental Marines, Nicholas remained the senior Marine officer throughout the American Revolution and is considered to be the first Marine  Commandant . The Treaty of Paris in April 1783 brought an end to the Revolutionary War and as the last of the Navy's ships were sold, the Continental Navy and Marines went out of ...

Veterans Day Explained

Image
Veterans Day -  History of Veterans Day World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” – officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.” Veterans Day continues to be observed on November 11, regardless of what day of the week on which it falls. The restoration of the observance of Veterans Day to November 11 not only preserves the historical significance of the date, but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day: A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common ...

Why do Veterans either love or hate the Outdoors

Image
For many there isn't very much of an inbetween. Probably because the largest part of the life is outdoors. It varies from flying to humping rucks all day. Living in fox holes, digging holes, trudging thru mud, wading thru creeks, deling with sand, rashes, bugs, snakes, climbing mountains, snow skis with rucks, rappelling and I could go on. Add some bullets, bombs, tense days and you could go either way.   But there is also the scenery and many places that the average joe doesnt ever see. For heights and angles that no one else gets to see. Animals in complete wilderness.  Maybe it becomes burn out for some. Others decide RV is best, many still love the solitude  and life of the outdoors. Finally getting to enjoy it without government gear and oversite.   Many different reasons, but seeems like once mustered out, many things that were hobbies, enjoyable and generally part of life changes. It goes from being not so enjoyable to greatest thing ever or ju...

A general day in a Disabled Veterans life

Image
What's it like to be a DV? for most, a roller coaster. Day in day out. Good days, bad days. Ups, downs. Noise. arguments. Pain. Lonely. Lost. Happy. Sad.  More than most want to even think about.  Many days start with little to no sleep the night before. Lite sleep. restless sleep. Wake up with aches, pains. Decide what meds to take. If you are driving can't take this one. Gonna need a ride if do. Timing meds and meals. Try to prevent stomach aches, rushing to bathroom at worst time. Fight to get out of bed. Try to work out stiffness. Stumble around. Get help dressing. First two hours is just becoming human to function. If you have a job it starts around 4am. If you don't, it is followed by doctor appointments or attempting to find a way to occupy the mind. If you have a caregiver, trying to work with them. Trying not to think about the mental aspect of anything that caused all the injuries. Vice verus, not letting the mental aspect stir up old injury pains. Spend the da...

Why pay for what you don't believe in?

Image
Not much other than a simple question. Why spend money that you earn on someone that goes against 100% of your beliefs.   If you think a singer goes against everything you stand for, why buy their music.  Why buy tickets to a ballgame that doesnt support you.  Why buy tickets to a movie, where the actors goes against everything you believe in.  At end of day, it is our money, we can and do spend it on what ever we want.   But does anyone every consider where that money goes and what it supports anymore?

Veterans Disabilities - Why do veterans shy away from treatment?

Image
Why do veterans shy away from treatment?   My opinion is that almost everytime, there is a pull to get treatment, it is followed by, just get over it.  Push, push till you cant go, then push some more. That is what is taught. Anytime you show any weakness, you lose your position, you lose spot, you lose the support.  In the movie Dog, they hit the nail on the head. When he tells the Captain all of us have injuries and head trauma. The captain tells him, yeah but we dont have it documented.  That's a very true statment. Once we as veterans step forward. Families, work and almost anyone that has anything to do with us, change their opinions, interactions and how they deal with us. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worst.  Many times they absolutely dont understand. Because of this, they will attempt to help in their way and it causes more issues.  One of the biggest suggestions when it comes to getting help is involving the family when ev...

Election Day is here

Image
This will be interesting to see how it turns out and the aftermath.  Chances are, regardless of who wins, it will be interesting to see the reactions of America and the world.

What about the other side?

Image
Does anyone ever question the other side of any topic any more? By question I dont mean argue. People argue all the time and many times neither side actually has any real point.  Does anyone ever look at whats being said vs. the actions.  When someone is giving advise on a subject to look at their record.  Someone giving boxing advise, do you look at their wins, loses, training of others or do you just except they are knowledgable because they talk alot.  When someone is giving bike riding lessons, do you look at what he is riding, where he has rode.  When people are putting others down about the equipment they ride or use, do you look to see what real expertise they have to judge. Many times the people they are judging will be better at the topic than they are.   Many companies talk about being part of a team supporting the top, the top supporting down, when in reality, they will cut you loose in a minute and call it just business.   When yo...

Insults and humiliation

Image
So this is what our country has come to. Constant rants, attacks, insults, humiliation and coercion to get votes.   Not much facts going on these days. Just fake reports, pictures, news and worthless debates.   The entire news and media structure has lost all trust. To include individuals.   Something for people to think about. The only thing their children are learning these days, will to be argue constantly, dont worry about the facts. If you can twist the truth, twist it.
